Star Sapphires are my passion and have always been, and they led me to start Simply Sapphires over a decade ago. I'm not sure what the allure is. Is it their rarity? (How rare are these gems? For every 100 faceted corundum (ruby and sapphire) mined, approximately three stars are discovered. One will have good color and a bad star. One will have a great star and bad color. Only one out of a hundred will have a good star and good color.)Or maybe their legenday mystique (the three crossed rays are said to symbolize faith, hope and destiny). Whatever the case I love them, so when I find a specimen like this it raises my blood pressure. Stunning color, strong beautiful star AND a translucent body, the magic triumvirate of star sapphires. This stone has been certified by the AGL (American Gem Lab) in New York as an unheated natural blue star sapphire. Even the notes by the lab stated "strength of star: strong" "quality of the star: very good". A stone for the conniseur. The pictures on this star really don't even come close to doing this star sapphire justice. The almost transparent nature of the stone makes the photography very difficult. I can say without hesitation, if you find the picture intriguing, you'll find the actual stone totally overwhelming in person.
