Used for thousands of years in gemstone pendants and jewelry. The yellow sapphire has many shades from pale yellows to saffron yellow, from yellow tinted reds to a deep citron yellow. Iron is the trace element that gives the sapphire its yellow color. In Sri Lanka, the home of many yellow sapphires, this color is referred to as pusparaga. The golden sapphire although it contains iron, for its natural color also has traces of chromic oxide as well. Australia has also mined and produced superb quality yellow sapphire (see below) for years but sadly they don\'t receive the recognition and respect they deserve. Many of these goldens and yellow gems are bought in Australia, cut overseas and then sold as Ceylon just to capture a higher premium.
