This large 5.89 carat oval brilliant cut Mozambique Paraiba tourmaline displays TOP NEON teal color that has a primary hue of blue with secondary green color (the photo shows two areas of faint yellow which are not apparent when viewing the stone with your eye or loupe). The stone is a beauty with eye-clean clarity (one point of cleavage is seen from sharp right angle but does not impact the stone's eye-clean clarity), excellent cutting (no window which is so rare on the large ovals) and breath-taking neon brilliance. The tourmaline measures 12.01 X 10.03 X 7.20 mm and is prong set in a heavy basket setting that affords ample light but allows the tourmaline to be set low for added security and ease of wear.
Joining this world class Paraiba is 1.13 carats of fine quality channel set baguette and pave set round brilliant diamonds. The diamonds are highly graded VS2 clarity and E color! This gemstone (or gemstone that is part of this piece of gemstone jewelry) has been enhanced by traditional heat treatment. Traditional heat treatment is used to improve a stones color, remove color zoning/banding, and improve clarity. This treatment is considered permanent. The only way to tell if a colored stone has been treated is for the stone to be analyzed by a lab. Generally only gemstone laboratories have the equipment necessary to make a qualified judgement with any certainty.
Untreated gemstones are rare and should be verified by a lab independent of the seller. A good rule of thumb is to always assume a gemstone has been enhanced, unless valid certification from a reputable laboratory is available. No one that sells jewelry or gems should be doing appraisals, certifications, or analysis. It should always be an independent third party with no vested interest in the sale.
