Description

The beauty of sapphire in my humble opinion is not only the brilliance and luster but also the HUGE variety of color they come in. Every hue of the rainbow can be found from colorless to WOW shades.
Corundum is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide (Al2O3) typically containing traces of iron, titanium, vanadium and chromium. It is a rock-forming mineral. It is also a naturally transparent material, but can have different colors depending on the presence of transition metal impurities in its crystalline structure Corundum has two primary gem varieties, ruby and sapphire. Rubies are red due to the presence of chromium, and sapphires exhibit a range of colors depending on whatever trace metals are present.
This particular sapphire was mined in the island nation of Madagascar, near a city called Ilakaka. Over the 20+ years in having our business, I’ve just seen some phenomenal colors come from this region. I’m not sure why, but they just do.
This sapphire also has that metallic type luster that you only find in an unheated sapphire. Put two sapphires of nearly the same color side by side and you’ll notice the luster is different if one is unheated.

This sapphire is also eye clean in clarity face up, and even underneath you see nothing other than a carbon spec and a few gas bubbles on it.
